A beautiful voice is the capstone of many musical recordings. Capturing your voice and turning it into a permanent sound file is more than just belting out your tune into a microphone. Voice recording is one of the trickiest parts of music production, and there’s a reason it’s usually saved for last. Laying the right groundwork is critical in producing a great voice recording.
As noted above, you should be prepared to do your voice recording last. This is not just music industry tradition; there are significant advantages to completing all the other parts of the recording process prior to handling your voice tracks. Instrumental recording should be entirely complete, including layering and mixing. Voice tracks need to be laid into instrumental tracks; attempting to work the other way around inevitably leads to confusion.
